How can social media tools like Facebook and Twitter be used to help improve our city? How can mobile technologies like SMS be used to help fundraise for non-profits?

Mobile Tech 4 Social Change is an open dialog barcamp exploring innovative uses of mobile technologies and social media to help improve the lives of people in Halifax.

This active conversation of turning ideas into action welcomes nonprofits, software developers or anyone interested in how new technologies can be used to organize, advocate and provide better health, environment, human rights, citizen journalism and other social services. We currently have seven great sessions planned (with ad-hoc sessions forming that day):

Our goal is to draw together the nonprofit and
tech communities to share knowledge, ask interesting questions and spark ideas. Proceeds from tickets will be donated to a local charity, decided by the event attendees. So at the end of the day, great opportunity to discuss ways to improve our city and help a local charity in the process, it's a win-win!

The one-day event will be hosted at The Hub Halifax on Saturday, May 23rd from 8:30am until 6:00pm.
