We've used year-end reporting to ask our CAP site community what they think of the bigger Digital Divide issues and here are the results.
When asked which demographic group is the most effected by CAP in the community, the following groups were identified:
"Very Important", in order of rank:
When asked "According to research by the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), over the next twenty four months, we will see a digital revolution equal to that of the past fifteen years. Is your community ready ?"
When asked " In your community, how urgent is the issue of Digital Divide?"
When asked "Do you feel that your community would support an initiative to lobby the Canadian Government to make internet access a fundamental human right in Canada?"
When asked which demographic group is the most effected by CAP in the community, the following groups were identified:
When asked to identify the demographic groups with the most challenges adapting to Digital Citizenship, the following groups were identified:
- Adults with low literacy
- Students
- Adults with disabilities
- Seniors
- Poverty
- Youth
- Homeless (93%)
- Seniors
- Social Assistance
- Poverty
- Money (costs too much)
"Very Important", in order of rank:
- Access to computers
- Internet Price Regulation
- Open Source Initiatives (FOSS)
- Opportunities for Non-Profits
- Access to cheaper technology
- Internet as a Human Right
- Freedom of information & privacy protection
When asked "According to research by the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), over the next twenty four months, we will see a digital revolution equal to that of the past fifteen years. Is your community ready ?"
- 87% of respondents said NO.
When asked " In your community, how urgent is the issue of Digital Divide?"
- 6.7% said not a priority
- 66.7% said it was urgent
- 26.7% said it was very urgent
When asked "Do you feel that your community would support an initiative to lobby the Canadian Government to make internet access a fundamental human right in Canada?"
- 80% said yes.
