Be part of Canada's Digital Economic future!

Halifax, June 1st 2010  -  The Government of Canada has recently launched a national consultation in the goal of achieving a national Digital Economic Strategy. With this initiative, the Government of Canada is soliciting input from individuals, associations, industry & institutions, in an effort to regain Canada's leadership in the Digital Economy. The Halifax Regional CAP Association, who's mandate is to deliver public internet access and community access to new and emerging technologies, invites all stakeholders to seize this occasion to voice their opinions on Canada's Digital Economic Strategy.

The Halifax Regional CAP Association is a non-profit organization which receives its mandate and funding from Industry Canada and the Department of Rural & Economic Development. HRCAP Executive Director Dan Robichaud encourages all web users to participate in this online consultation:

"With the rate of emerging technologies, and the rate at which other nations are surpassing our digital footprint, it is more important than ever for Canada to regain it's internet leadership. This online consultation process is an opportunity for Canadians to shape their future. It is of primordial importance for all web users to participate in this vast consultation before it's July 9th deadline."

Individuals and organizations can participate in an online forum, post comments, research and memoirs related to the advancement of our Digital Economy. The Halifax Regional CAP Association also hopes that the federal government will include Nova Scotian communities in all aspects of this consultation process, including official languages and minority groups. This would ensure that the Digital Economic Strategy encompasses the rights of all web users, and in particular, those effected by the ever-expanding Digital Divide.

Internet technology is an integral part of life.  Be it health, culture, communications, business... emerging technologies play a crucial role in the our development, and the development of our future generations. The Halifax Regional CAP Association is pleased to see that our government is taking action to regain our lost digital leadership.

The Halifax Regional CAP Association strongly encourages all of it's member sites, staff, volunteers, patrons and stakeholders to participate fully in this consultation. In fact, this consultation may be the only way to demonstrate the role of public access in the greater Digital Economy.
