Examples of Site Policies

Site Hours

Opening Up

    1. Arrive at site 15 minutes before scheduled opening.
    2. Check the outside of the building for damages, signs of forced entry, hazards, etc.
    3. Unlock the door with the key provided. Alert Site Manager if there are any issues with the door/ lock. (If a key needs to be supplied see the Key access policy.)
    4. Turn off alarm.
    5. Once inside lock door until site is ready to open.
    6. Turn on lights. Set heating to comfort level. Start computers. Tidy room.
    7. Check Staff Communications Log for any info from the night before.
    8. Check telephone messages.
    9. Date and set activity logs beside each computer.
    10. Unlock door for client access.
    11. Record activity logs from previous day.

Closing Up

    1. Alert clients at 15 minutes before closing time that they have 15 minutes to finish up.
    2. Once last client has left tidy room. Turn off unused computers. Set heat to maintenance level.
    3. Place any cash in locked drawer.
    4. Place any forgotten items in the Lost and Found drawer.
    5. Gather activity logs.
    6. Write end of day entry in Staff Communication Log book.
    7. Set telephone message.
    8. Set alarm.
    9. Lock door.
    1. If the site must be closed, follow the same procedure as above and post a sign indicating time and duration of closure posted not less than 1 week in advance. Place a message on the answering service of the site alerting all to the closure and record reason and date/ time in the Site Communication log.
    2. Should there be an emergency that requires the site to be closed follow the same procedure as above and post a sign indicating time and duration of closing. Place a message on the answering service of the site alerting all to the closure and record reason and date/ time in the Site Communication log.

Site Cleaning Policy

    1. To be maintained by staff on duty.
    2. Desktops clear of paper and other clutter.
    3. Trash pails checked- if half full emptied.
    4. Washroom checked for mess and cleaned.
    1. Floor mopped by custodial staff.
    2. Garbage emptied.
    3. Washroom mopped and sanitized.
    1. Fridge cleaned out.

Handling Money

Fire Safety

    1. Close all doors.
    2. Call 911 and report fire.
    3. If possible, use fire extinguisher as trained.
    4. Call Site Manager and alert to situation.
    5. Remove computers from area, after fire is extinguished.
