Saying Goodbye
Appreciation-Saying Goodbye to Valued Volunteers
If someone has had a great impact on the organization and is no longer able to commit to service any longer it is only fitting that there be celebration in their honour and that they receive a token of the organization's appreciation.
Here are some tips surrounding a celebration of this type:
- Celebrate the accomplishments of the Volunteer and those that this Volunteer has seen over the course of their Volunteering with your organization.
- Define long term/ invaluable service in a policy for offering appreciation to these special few.
- Define a formula for determining the worth of the reward. It stands to reason that this individual who has given so much should receive more than the average end of assignment gift.
- To avoid issues around inequality, establish the financial worth of the gift.
- The gift should be purchased no matter the circumstances of the departure.
- The method of awarding the gift may be changed dependant upon the circumstances of departure.
- If the gift is to be bestowed on Family members after the Volunteer's death there should be a protocol developed around acceptable method of interacting with the family.
